Credit Card Review: Chase World of Hyatt Business
Compared to Marriott and Hilton points, Hyatt points are difficult to earn by using credit cards. You can either transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards (UR) points to your Hyatt account or get the Chase World of Hyatt card. Nevertheless, Hyatt introduced another way to earn prized Hyatt points, and that is through the Chase World of Hyatt Business card. It features interesting benefits that differ from traditional hotel credit cards. Should it belong in your wallet? Here is my review of the Chase World of Hyatt Business card:
Why You Probably Already Qualify for a Business Credit Card
Before I get into the details of this card, one of the questions I get asked is, “Do I Need to Own a Business to be Approved for a Business Credit Card?” While most people would respond, “Well, I don’t own a business.” The real question boils down to, “Do you need to own a business to be approved for a business credit card?” Yes, you need to have a business, but you don’t need an established corporation or LLC to qualify as a business owner in most institutions. In reality, sole proprietorship qualifies for many business credit card applications, and most side gigs or hustles certainly count. For instance, if you were to sell old clothes on eBay or Craigslist, you would qualify for a business line of credit. Do you tutor students after school or over the summer? Sole proprietorship right there. What if you were to, say, write blogs for fun? Once again, sole proprietorship. Sign-Up Bonus & Multiplier: Worth up to $1,200
The Chase World of Hyatt Business card currently offers a sign-up bonus of 60,000 World of Hyatt points after spending $5,000 in three months. With a 2.0 cents per point valuation, the sign-up bonus is worth about $1,200. The Chase World of Hyatt Business card earns 4X World of Hyatt points for expenses at Hyatt properties, 2X World of Hyatt points for gym memberships, 2X World of Hyatt points for your top three eligible spending categories each quarter through 12/31/2023 (then changing to top two spend categories each quarter in 2024), and 1X World of Hyatt points on all other purchases. The spending categories include the following:
Dining
Airline tickets purchased directly with the airline
Car rental agencies
Local transit and commuting
Gas stations
Internet, cable, and phone services
Social media and search engine advertising

Annual Fee & Benefits
The card's annual fee is $199, but it has valuable benefits and perks that effectively offset the annual fee:
Reach Hyatt Elite Status Faster with Business Expenses
In a calendar year, you can earn five elite night credits for every $10,000 spent on the Chase World of Hyatt Business card. There is no limit to the number of elite night credits you can earn by putting business expenses on the card, which means after putting $120,000 on the card in a calendar year, you would earn Globalist status—the highest elite status on the Hyatt status ladder. When compared to the personal version of the Hyatt credit card, the business variation is more efficient in reaching elite status faster. Though the personal World of Hyatt card earns two elite qualifying nights for every $5,000 spent in a calendar year, it will take $140,000 to earn the top-tier, Globalist status.
Complimentary Discoverist Status
Discoverist status is the lowest Hyatt elite status, which is normally achieved by spending ten elite qualifying nights at Hyatt properties or earning 25,000 base points. Cardholders of the Chase World of Hyatt Business card will enjoy automatic Discoverist status, which can be extended up to five employees. Since it is entry-level status, Hyatt Discoverists will receive daily free bottled water, upgrades to preferred rooms within the same room group (subject to availability), and late checkout when available. You can also status match with MGM Rewards and even earn extra World of Hyatt points on qualifying American Airlines flights. Remember that the card doesn’t automatically receive five elite night credits, while the personal card does.
Chance to Earn back Redeemed World of Hyatt Points
After spending $50,000 in a calendar year, you can start to receive 10% of redeemed World of Hyatt points. Note that the discount is only valid for that calendar year. For example, if you were to spend $50,000 by 9/1/2022, you can make use of the perk until 12/31/2022. Even after passing the spending threshold, Hyatt will only reimburse you up to 20,000 World of Hyatt points, which means redeeming 200,000 World of Hyatt points will bring the benefit to a stop.
Annual $100 Credit for Hyatt Expenses
The Chase World of Hyatt Business card offers up to $100 in annual Hyatt credits. Cardmembers can receive the benefit by spending $50 or more in a single transaction at any Hyatt hotels, resorts, and participating Small Luxury Hotels of the World properties, and they will receive $50 in statement credit, up to twice every cardmember year. This perk should be hassle-free since the purchase could include room rates, dining, or even spa treatments. Thus, I value the benefit at 100%, which effectively slashes the annual fee in half.
Is the World of Hyatt Business Card Worth It?
The Chase World of Hyatt Business card offers a great welcome bonus, and given that Hyatt points are difficult to earn if you are a fan of Hyatt hotels, I think the card is worth a spot in your wallet, at least temporarily. If you have recurring significant business expenses to take advantage of its lower spending requirements for reaching higher elite status, then I could see a long-term value for the card. However, I find it odd that a premium hotel credit card doesn’t earn a free night award, as most hotel credit cards do. The reimbursement on redeemed points sounds appealing on paper, but, unfortunately, the maximum amount for reimbursement is capped at 20,000 points. The saving grace is the card’s annual $100 credit for Hyatt expenses, which effectively lowers the annual fee from $199 to $99. If you are a small business owner and want to fast-track your Hyatt elite status, the World of Hyatt Business card may be for you.
Summary
The Chase World of Hyatt Business card is an interesting hotel business credit card. It offers complimentary Hyatt Discoverist status and a faster way to accumulate elite night credits by putting business expenses on the card. However, unlike most hotel credit cards, it doesn’t earn a free award night but still costs $199. The only benefit I can take at face value would be its annual $100 credit toward any Hyatt expenses, broken into $50 increments. I personally value Hyatt points at 2 cents per point, so the 60,000 point sign-up bonus is worth $1,200 to me, but unless you are a small business owner with regular large expenses, the World of Hyatt Business card may not be in your credit card arsenal for a long time.
